Post: busy times at Liaison

There’s a buzz about Liaison Congo this afternoon. The place is crowded, mainly with students. Innocent has bought eighteen laptops and they are all occupied. Plus there are four people sat at a bench using their own computer. That’s twenty-two people! Innocent told me earlier that he is going to upgrade the bandwidth and he is thinking of buying more laptops.

Just as important for me is the news that evening classes have started and are already proving popular. They run from 6.00 to 7.00pm and provide people with an introduction to computers and to the internet. He says that people are asking for English classes, which are beyond the initial scope for Liaison Congo. But given that Innocent was once an English teacher and knows several people who can contribute to classes, then maybe it’s a good thing to try. People here in Bukavu are keen to learn.
